"A Day in the Life" is a song written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney (credited to Lennon/McCartney) and recorded by The Beatles for their 1967 album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Background John Lennon wrote the melody and most of the lyrics to the verses of "A Day in the Life" in mid-January 1967. Soon afterwards, he presented the song to Paul McCartney, who contributed a middle-eight section. According to Lennon, McCartney also contributed the pivotal line "I'd love to turn you on.
