This is the 6th track on the "B" side of the vinyl release of Noisy Champs by Les Batteries released by Ayaa in 1986. It appears as track 13 on the 2010 CD release by Musea/Gazul. An alternate, "live" version entitled "Three Legs For Two Birds" and credited to "Trio de Batterie", recorded at the group's first concert, appears on the compilation Musique Action Internationale 85.
This piece exemplifies Les Batteries' distinctive approach to percussion-based composition, where rhythmic complexity becomes a vehicle for genuine musical inquiry rather than technical display. The track's title suggests an asymmetrical puzzle—an intriguing conceptual framework that shapes its sonic architecture. What emerges is a conversation between multiple percussion voices, each maintaining its own logic while negotiating shared space. The alternate live version reveals how the group's ideas withstand the unpredictability of performance, suggesting these compositions possess real structural integrity beneath their experimental surface. For listeners curious about how percussion ensemble music extends beyond conventional timekeeping, this work offers substantive engagement with rhythm as a compositional language.
