It was written by Amerie and Rich Harrison, with production handled by Harrison. The song incorporates go-go rhythms and samples the 1970 funk track "Oh, Calcutta!" by the Meters, written by Stanley Walden. The song's lyrics focus on an unidentified "thing" that fuels a romantic attraction. In 2004, Amerie began working on her second album and collaborated with producer Rich Harrison
