dml (aka vlugt) has been producing crude sample-based hip-hop and downtempo music on crude hardware and software for over ten years / originally from new york dml is now brighton based after some years in london / the early work used cut-and-paste and collage techniques weaving together musical snippets to invent new compositions / the source material came from current listening habits and favourite tracks / too busy [and lazy] to hunt for obscure samples dml was happy to sample the already sampled / ‘marlow’ [2002] ‘dark business’ [2006] and ‘end ep’ [2007] were all completed using this technique / since 2007 professional software and a bit of hardware kit have led to a new approach based on synth and instrument emulation software / ‘quondam ep’ [2008] ‘retrovert’ [2009] ‘lost radio songs’ [2010] and ‘noel ep’ [2011] have been completed since with some sampling making its way back into the process / the ‘albums’ are not fully professional releases in any sense but stopping points along a learning and experimental process / they are documents of particular phases and interests using album formats to focus the process / all were made primarily for my own listening pleasure but are put into the public domain for those that may stumble and enjoy a track here or there // along side production work there are mixsets that can be found on http://www.vlugt.co.uk/mix%20sets.html and http://www.mixcloud.com/vlugt/ each is theme-based and have formed the basis of a few dj appearances in
