Transylvania 500,[1] "the band from Transylvania", burst on to the Canadian music scene in 1996. They have played in shows around Southern Ontario in the decade since. They are favorites in Hamilton, Brantford, Toronto, London, Ottawa, Montreal, Lansing, Michigan and all places evil. The organ and drum combo consist of two brothers, as the prepubescent Wolfboy and Count Suckula. Wolfboy is stuck at the age of 15, while his brother (a vampire) is over 1000 years old. It would seem their real identities are kept a secret from their audience, as they take to the stage in character and disappear after each show. (Not literally, they just sort of quietly leave the venue.) [2] Though their shows are centered around Southern Ontario, they claim to maintain residence in Transylvania. As Count Suckula said in an interview, "We still live in Transylvania! Anytime we are to come over to Canada to play a show I merely transform myself into a bat and fly while my brother Wolfboy rides on my shoulders." [3] One of their shows was, appropriately enough, the The Hilarious House of Frightenstein tribute/convention in Toronto. [4] They have also been known to open for Bob Log III when he tours Ontario. A mysterious band in more ways than the pretend, Transylvania 500 has earned a small and unique place in Canadian rock and roll history.
