thiscitydiestonight were a post-hardcore / metalcore band from Halifax, West Yorkshire, formed in 2007. The band grew out of earlier projects including Eyestrive, where Nick and Toby had been playing metal influenced by bands such as Tool and Static-X, and Athena, where Luke and Toby had been influenced by Rage Against the Machine. Wanting to move in a heavier, more melodic direction inspired by bands like Killswitch Engage, Misery Signals, and Avenged Sevenfold, Luke, Toby and Nick formed thiscitydiestonight, later joined by other members over the course of the year. In 2007, the band recorded and released a 5-track self-titled EP featuring “Ode To Retribution,” “Made For The Ballroom,” “Interlude,” “This Burst Artery Cause My Heartache,” and “Hollywood In Ruins.” They were later signed to independent label Highcroft Productions and built a strong following, especially online through Myspace, where they amassed around 6,000 followers and roughly 1,000 daily song plays. thiscitydiestonight played alongside a number of well-known bands including Protest the Hero, Enter Shikari, The Ghost Inside, Bring Me The Horizon, penknifelovelife, Raging Speedhorn, and The Hurt Process, and also toured the UK with Forever Falling. They frequantly played in well known venues Josephs Well, The Cockpit, Rock City and Satan's Hollow. The band split in late 2008, after which Toby and Luke went on to form The Final Crisis.
