Artist
The Sugar Fire was kindled by the influence of the masters of alternative, artistic/progressive, and space rock - bands like A Perfect Circle, Deftones, the Foo Fighters, Failure / Year of the Rabbit / Ken Andrews, Tool, Porcupine Tree / Blackfield / Steven Wilson, Radiohead, Cave In, 311, Incubus, Silverchair, Hum, the Verve, Burning Airlines, System of a Down, Thrice, Pink Floyd / David Gilmour - and the organic list goes on -- all of them renowned musicians who have led the art form of unapologetically melodic rock into the 21st century. With detectable hints of these influences, and yet evading direct comparison to any other band, The Sugar Fire has forged its own sound. It's a sound that is distinctively dynamic, polished and yet edgy, with an intricate play between Wingfield's vocals and guitar work, which together rise and spiral, one moment alternating in contrast and the next moment swelling in beautiful harmony. And this sonic complimentary only deepens with the contributions of Wiggins on bass and Gutierrez on drums. The Sugar Fire is thus a must-hear for any fan of independently produced, professional quality alternative / progressive rock, especially when so many of today's bands are giving way to patterns and compromises and neglecting to push the boundaries as musicians should.
