The Melody Function is a subset of Happy Happy Birthday to Me’s own Ideal Free Distribution, being comprised of most of the Lexington, KY based members. Since its inception, the three creative forces of the IFD (Craig, Eric, and Tony) have typically composed the basis of their songs in isolation before bringing them to the other members. The Melody Function is the name of this process for Tony Miller and his fellow bandmates Joe Drury, Samantha Herald, and Mike Grote.
