One of the best-kept secrets of mid-90's Florida hardcore, The Criticaster Project is a "posthumous supergroup", featuring members who are reported to currently be members of several hardcore and punk bands of varying levels of success. Part and parcel of the Criticaster Project ideology, however, was a forced anonymity that eventually culminated in the performers wearing ski masks during concerts, making these rumors difficult to confirm or deny. While the band was originally formed as a tounge-in-cheek deconstruction of the straightedge grindcore/power-violence scene that permeated their hometown of Sarasota, FL in the era, the group was well-recieved by fans and eventually made the decision to use their platform not as parody, but as an opportunity to present some radically leftist political ideals, without ever abandoning the self-effacing and semi-hyperbolic commentary that defined them. Only one album was ever recorded, "Violence Is Golden", and it was sold in very limited quantities at shows only throughout the Tampa Bay area. If this is showing up in your last.fm, you are either very lucky, or you already know everything about this band and will probably chuckle a little bit at the above paragraph.
