Bethany Schmitt, known professionally as The Buttress (aka Buttress) is an American rapper. The New Jersey native's music explores religious themes and radical feminism, and takes on a Hardcore Rap and Horrorcore sound. She has released two albums, Behind Every Great Man (2014) and ENDOFUNCTOR (2023). Her most well-known song, Brutus, is a retelling of the assassination of Julius Caesar, from the perspective of a female Brutus. Seven years after its release, she released a follow-up song, Rex - Brutus II, which explores the aftermath of Brutus's actions and their effects on Rome. Buttress also runs Phenomonology Club, an internet-based group dedicated to the study and discussion of phenomenology.
