Surfin Serf is the music of Byron Lynch. He describes it as "Michael Jackson Kinsella fronting Dismemberment Plan circa 2000." From summer of 2010, It has become a four-piece band with Russell Harrisson on guitar, synthesizer, and voice, McCarty Johnson on bass and voice, and Jorgen Trygved on drums. Surfin Serf started as a high school instrumental band with Byron and Erik Schardin in the suburbs of Orlando, FL in 2004. 2007 marked the beginning of Byron's increasing influence on the music. Through 2008 and 2009, various cassettes and CD-Rs of songs were self-released. Through summer 2008, Erik played guitar and Byron sang and played drums and guitar. From 2009, Kevin Beasley and Dylan Foeller of 1991 joined the band, both playing drums. In summer of that year, Julio Felix joined the band, playing drums with Kevin while Dylan moved to bass.
