Artist
Stephen Orsak has been an electronic musician and enthusiast since his family purchased their first computer while still a freshman in high school, slowly migrating from playing guitar in hardcore bands to working alone in his parent's attic. His compositional process combines acoustic performance, synthesis, randomization, field recordings, sampling and digital manipulation... sculpting personal pieces that challenge categorization. However disparate his sound sources may be, a strong melodic identity is always the goal, resulting in music that is both awkward and accessible. In performance he utilizes guitars, pedals, laptop, synthesizers, contact mics, and random objects to create spontaneous interpretations of premeditated themes, always inviting the element of surprise. Solo recordings include an EP titled “lessons from the list maker” that was released on the defunct net-label Hippocamp in 2005, two pieces on a compilation released by the micro-label Secret Machine Language in 2006, and one piece on the Exponential Records compilation titled TEXAS released in 2009. Other projects include performing with ambient folk duo Twigs & Yarn and producing records for bands like Pure X, Shakey Graves, some say Leland, Alexa Woodward, Dana Falconberry… User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
