Enid News & Eagel Band with Enid roots is moving on.... Donnie Rex Martin is no stranger to Enid, a born and raised product of our own community. But now he is no stranger to musical success. He and two of his Enid friends, Taylor and Joel McCreary, have been burning up the roads in Oklahoma and Texas, bringing their hybrid red dirt country meets rock n’ roll sound to a combination of large crowds, as well as intimate venues. On its face, it’s just another fledgling band cutting its teeth, but in this particular case, the formation and evolution of the band has been somewhat unique. Donnie started writing songs in college, after having casually played the guitar in high school. His songwriting strength was a genie in a bottle, waiting to be unleashed. The place in which it all started happened to be Dallas. It began in 2004 and 2005 with some open mic nights in the Dallas area, where Donnie had picked up a friend at work who liked his music, and who wanted to play those shows with him. Those open mics turned into a weekly Greenville gig right in the heart of Dallas entertainment. About that time, things got interesting. Donnie ran into Joel McCreary, an Enid guy who happened to be a drummer, and the group known as Southern Drive was off and running. About that time, a bass guitarist fell into place, and the birth of a new album, “Take a Ride,” forged the group and cast them into the Dallas spotlight.
