Also see http://www.last.fm/music/Small+Defence Small Defence are a Sydney based production duo comprising of Rob Staines and Kristian Hill. Formed in 2000 they began exploring the electronic side of music and quickly forged their own style. 2002 saw the release of BAMBOO SOUP, a collaboration with Shakuhachi grand master Riley Lee. A record that fused the organic tone of the ancient instrument with the electro-ambient moods of smalldefence. Released by One World Music. 2003 was spent making their first solo record BIMBY. They pushed their boundaries further into dub, rock and electro. In January 2006 smalldefence released their 2nd solo album THANKS FOR THE OPPOSITE OF NOTHING on their own indie label Drax Records. It has the courageous digital exploration of BIMBY mixed together with warm analogue pop songs. In September 2008 Small Defence released their 3rd solo album THE FONTS. THE FONTS is a spectacular blend of Beach Boy harmonies meets Germanic electronica in an indie T-Shirt shop run by Thurston Moore. The first single from the album, QWERTY is pure 60’s psychedelia driven by rockin acoustic guitars and a bass line Peter Hook would be proud of. With more space-echo than is safely recommended it is catchier than Loveshack. Kristian & Rob will be performing live with their 7 piece band around Australia in November to launch THE FONTS before heading overseas for more shows and recording next year.
