Born and raised in the South and currently based in Los Angeles, Jodi Shurbet began recording music as Scruffpuppie in 2017. Since launching her YouTube channel in 2015, Scruffpuppie’s lo-fi bedroom emo sound has struck a chord with listeners across the world. Known by followers for her inventive covers, but praised for her live recordings of original songs, Scruffpuppie is Gen-Z’s answer to grunge. At just twenty-one years of age, she has mobilized a loyal and engaged community of over 700,000 followers across platforms. Rooted in the monotony of suburban angst, Scruffpuppie’s songs are at once current and timeless, a homage to the grunge, folk, and indie icons who came before her. Her style is a melting pot of contradictions. An artist deeply influenced by Bon Iver, who first gained traction on YouTube with an acoustic cover of Lil Peep.
