safetravelz, real name Marcus Jayde, is a 19-year-old rapper (born July 3rd 2006) originally from Houston, but based in New York City. He is known for his abstract hip-hop style, which blends intricate lyricism, lo-fi and alternative beats, and unconventional themes. He began his musical journey by playing the piano and guitar at a very young age, and composed his first rap song in 2023. His early influences include Frank Ocean's Blonde, A Tribe Called Quest's The Low End Theory, J Dilla's Donuts, and Sade's Love Deluxe, which inspired his passion for R&B and hip-hop. safetravelz's music blends introspective lyricism with atmospheric production, often exploring themes of personal growth, identity, and social justice. His debut album, TIME IS A THIEF, released in February 2025, features standout tracks like "a man and his secrets," "love of a scorpio," and "lack of change / paper". He describes "lack of change / paper" as a response to conversations with his mother about societal issues, aiming to inspire change. In addition to his solo work, safetravelz has collaborated with other artists and is actively building a community around his music.
