Mojokiss is the stage name of Matt Mayes. He was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1976. He started playing stringed instruments from a young age including banjo, violin, mandolin, harmonica, both classical and jazz guitar, and others. He started writing lyrics from a young age and mostly builds them into music around the classical guitar. Later on, he began to compose and arrange music using computers and programs such as cakewalk, and then fruity loops. This enabled him to work with the entire spectrum of symphonic and synthesized sound as well as to modify his own original samples and acoustic recordings to be used with sequencers and virtual mixers. His influences are a blend of acoustic and electronic, both mature in nature, deeply internalized and carefully represented. Many of his recordings contain remixes of his remixes. Some influentual artists are Aphex Twin, Pat Metheny and Tom Waits. Mojokiss is also a well known photographer in the underground and alternative scenes as well as the general art photography scene. He continues to periodically perform these days appearing as a guest on various genres of albums, some of which have recieved grammy nominations tho he is withdrawn from social gatherings, and now is reported to live in a warehouse in the philidelphia area.
