Per Ebdrup, formerly known as Swing Republic and now under the alias Modal Projekt, is a Danish musician, producer and DJ signed to UK independent record label, Freshly Squeezed. Under Swing Republic, Per fused old records and remixed them with a modern spin, establishing himself as one of the biggest acts in electro swing most noticeably with a hit remix of Beyonce - 'Crazy In Love'. However, Modal Projekt's first EP, '#1 January' marked a change in style. Mixing old with new is probably the only constant between the old and new sound. '#1 January' combines downtempo, electronica with modal improvisation on the saxophone and trumpet (Jan Harbeck and Peter Marrott both collaborate on the record.) A bit like Miles Davis meets Bonobo. Or Nils Frahm & Trentemoller collaborating with Charlie Parker. With a follow-up EP in the works, also signed to Freshly Squeezed, Modal Projekt begins a journey into new realms.
