Artist
Kaila Flexer is a violinist, composer, music educator, producer, recording artist and Artistic Director of Worldview Cultural Performances, an Oakland-based non-profit arts organization. She is best-known locally for founding and producing Klezmer Mania!, a much-loved annual Bay Area celebration of Jewish culture for over 10 years (1989-2002). She has been at the helm of such groups as Next Village, Third Ear and Kaila Flexer’s Fieldharmonik. She is currently half of the duo Teslim (which means both ‘Surrender’ and ‘Commit’ in Turkish), which features Flexer on violin and viola and Gari Hegedus on oud, saz, lauoto, violin and penny whistles.
