Formed in London as a two-piece in 2016 between two university friends, Jacques (guitar/vocals and Timmy (drums/vocals). After playing their first show, they recorded the demo version of Elouise Prosperity, as that was to be that, with Jacques moving to Manchester for the final year of university. Over the summer, as an excuse to hang out, they recorded 'Catharsis' at a friend's house in London. With zero intent of continuing to be a band, it wasn't released for 6-months, in January 2017 and had no serious mixing or recording; nevertheless, some people seemed to like it, and the band found themselves working long-distance. During a year of playing shows and finishing university, Jacques wrote 'Cold Sweats & Constellations', sending all audio to Timmy when they could, and practising together when they could. Throughout this process, they released 'Beer & Fan Service', a compilation dedicated to Misato Katsuragi, the namesake of a song from the upcoming EP. 'Cold Sweats & Constellations' was released at the end of summer in 2018, a collection of tracks about learning to leave the past behind. It did better than their last EP, and they played more shows, with songwriting of the next EP already underway, which was meant to be a more upbeat, less lo-fi release. From this point on, half of Good Carl was based in Leeds, and the band soon became a three-piece, adding promoter and DIY label owner Francis as a bassist.
