Gladde Paling has quickly become one of the most talked about names in the rave scene thanks to his unpredictable energy. Laurens van Dijk, better known by his stagename ‘Gladde Paling’ (Dutch for ‘Slippery Eel’) is a producer and DJ from the Netherlands. The rather mysterious artist makes very short tracks with hard beats and a dose of dry humour. His music, which fall into the memecore genre, are full of samples from all kinds of sources, like viral videos, children’s games, commercials and television programs. Most of his songs last an average of one and a half minutes and have ordinary titles such as 'Dolfijn', 'Een Vliegtuig' and 'Overstroming'. But behind these names lies a world of crazy music filled with funny samples, catchy melodies and hyperactive beats. He has already been labeled with titles such as 'troll 'n bass' & 'meme techno' by 3voor12 and Poppodium 013, which launched a series of events with Gladde Paling, considered him 'Dutch most wanted drum 'n bass delicacy'.
