South Carolina is not known for its hip hop talents. There seems to be only one in particular who shines the most GEMSTAR DA GOLDENCHILD. Gemstar Da Goldenchild was born in the hood of Lexington, South Carolina but was raised in the suburbs of Lexington. Since the age of 9 he was mixing and scratching on his sound design turntables. It wasn't until years later that he realized that a hip hop mc is what he was destined to be. With dreams of becoming a NBA star all thru his teenage years reality hit when graduation was over. Spending 2 years in college just made him realize that the normal 9-5 is not how he wants to spend the next 20years of his life. Writing rhymes on order sheets during 12hour shifts was the final straw. Gemstar had purchased a karaoke machine to see how his lyrics would sound over instrumentals. "It started out with me and my homeboy just freestylin' the dumbest shit we could think of ." On that note Gemstar decided to become serious and make a mixtape of himself freestyling over other major artist instrumentals. He took his mixtapes to close friends and relatives to get opinions on his product. In that process he was recording with a family member who happen to be the only one recording hip hop music in Lexington at the time. He showed him the basics of recording, writing and producing. From there on Gemstar began to make more freestyle mixtapes. It wasn't until him and his cousins who made a video with all them freestyl
