Drone Operator is the most recent incarnation of the eclectic musical stylings of central Florida producer Robert Caperton. The idea is simple: to write music that sounds as mechanized as possible while still retaining a sinister organic undertone. The result is a fusion of dark electro, IDM, industrial and booty breaks that make people shake their asses as well as nod their heads. Once you hear the booming of the 808 kicks and the seething twists of distortion with layer upon layer of digital and analog manipulation, then you know you are hearing the work of the drone operator. The drone is the incessant squeal of the low-pass filter and the pounding pulses of each kick drum as it drowns out the voices in your head. The operator is the manipulator, shaping the soundscape into an experience that is different to every person who hears it, conducting, shaping and molding their thoughts into something brooding and ominous. The drone works and the operator directs the machines to push out the pulses of sound that are like words but convey a depth and meaning that verbage cannot manage.
