Dammerson Vaughan is the ambient electronic, film-scoring alter-ego of Steven Vertel, former Rock bassist/guitarist for The Downsiders, Goodbye Johnny and These Days. These three Chico rock bands eluded discovery by the masses yet released some of the more vital recordings to come out of the late '80s Northern California rock scene, released on the Devil in the Woods label. Dammerson's sound fuses deeply moody synthetic soundscapes with some acoustic elements and gently mangled rhythms, resulting in an otherworldly yet comfortable environment. His goal is create sounds that complement visual images yet are evocative enough to paint a mental picture on their own.
