The Combo Kings were formed in 1959 in the Philadelphia suburban area (North Wales,Penllyn,Conshohocken,Willow Grove,Norristown). The original members were the late Lee Bosket(organ),Barry Bosket(bass),Robert (Bobby)Lewis(drums),Fred Robbins(guitar),the late Stanley Watkins(tenor & alto sax),Pervis Herder(lead vocalist)the late Bo Stevens(guitar),Andy Lewis III(manager). The group ranged in age from 11years old(Stanley) to 19 years old(Fred) and their parents took turns as their chaferons at local clubs,teenage dances,college fraternity parties & cabaret parties. The Combo Kings were the local back up band for many of the recording artist who came to Phila. for the American Bandstand Show. The group appeared with Sam Cooke,The Isley Brothers,Dee Dee Sharp,Tammy Montgomery(later became Tammy Terrell),Frankie Beverly,Bobby Rydell,Fabian,Frankie Avolon,Little Peggy Marsh,Lee Andrews & The Hearts,Gary US Bonds & many more to numerous to mention. Leon Huff of Gamble & Huff fame worked with the group for a few months. The Combo Kings recorded Mish Mash in 1963, In A garage at Flo-Jo Records Record #4095 a 45 rpm this record broke into the top 50 of local radio station WIBG. Side B Of the record Was "All I Could do is cry " They also recorded Oh Teacher/Fragile Handle With Care released on the Imperial Label, Do The Slow Fizz /Bat Man aGoGo on the Jamie Label.
