Artist
Most of the best things in life happen without any big plans. After all, who would have thought that a simple meeting between two Norwegian fans of experimental music would end up in one of the most fruitful collaborations of the last few years? Jan-M Iversen and Sindre Bjerga sure wouldn't have - after all, their individual musical backgrounds were quite different, with Iversen into computer editing and Bjerga a fan of on-the-spot improvisation. But somehow curiosity and chance prevailed. The defining moment probably came when the duo stayed at an idyllic cabin near a lighthouse and recorded bucketloads of material and slowly finding their niche of raw drone music, of floating walls of sustained tones underneath ruggedly moving washes of noise. "The Oslo Groove machine" got going somewhere in 2003/2004 and has since never looked back. Tours in Norway, the Netherlands and the UK followed and as they expanded their public, their discography grew to absurd proportions. Maybe so has this interview, which was intended to consist of no more than a few questions for an article, but then curiosity and chance prevailed and everything somehow expanded without end. On the other hand, this story deserves to be told - Bjerga/Iversen have built something for themselves, a place of their own in the music world and the incessant stream of creativitiy and their DIY mentality may serve as a source of inspiration to all experimental artists worldwide.
