Artist
Hailing from France’s Centre region, ank-hara is a singer and music producer based in London. She developed an aptitude for music by studying clarinet and piano as a kid. She then went on to deepening her vocal abilities, singing in gospel choirs and listening to the likes of Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, M.I.A, Grimes, and more. It was the latter that gave her the final inspirational push to start producing her own songs. In 2014 she became a member of the Tours-based music and art collective 12PL, contributing with her vocals, and production. The collective released 4 singles on Youtube and SoundCloud. At 19 years old, she moved to London to pursue a career in music. Her single ‘walking on water’ gained recognition from the beat-making community as she won South London “Beat Meet” competition, thus getting crowned first ‘Queen of the Hill’. However, she really introduced herself with I : C (ank-hara’s first name being Clara) with a collection of third-eye opening, meditative, ambient tracks, haunting acapella interludes, and transcendent electro. She released her widely self-produced debut album S.A.D. in 2020. Amongst self-validating anthems, eccentric trap beats, sensual trip-hop and melancholic R&B, S.A.D. also talks about depression, unrequited love, and ending toxic relationships.
