Zazhil is a group of musicians born and raised in the capital of Mexico- Mexico City. Since 1981 they have focused on the musical tradition of “son” and all of its diverse expressions, mixing the traditional Mexican Son with contemporary Rhythms. Thus ZAZHIL is known as the pioneer of Mexican Son with Fusion. Concurrently its members have participated individually in projects focused on classical and contemporary music, South-American and Afro-Antillean music, “canto nuevo,” flamenco, rock and jazz music. Parallel to their knowledge of diverse musical genres, the members of ZAZHIL have maintained a long of 27 years an inexhaustible study of the great diversity and richness of traditional Mexican music, the “Alma Mater” of all of their projects, which also has linked them intimately with internationally known artists such as Amparo Ochoa (for 9 years), Oscar Chavez, Pancho Madrigal and Gabino Palomares. Through cultural programs promoted by the Mexican government, ZAZHIL has toured throughout the country, bringing them in contact with the experts of “son” found in the regions of the Huasteca, Veracruz, Jalisco, and Guerrero, among others, in additional to the indigenous musicians of our country.
