Since January of 2009, Zach May and the Maps have been a regular performer on the Urbana-Champaign, IL independent music scene. The band was formed by Vocalist, Cellist, and Guitarist Zach May in order to perform several songs he had composed and recorded on his own while studying abroad in Mexico City and Uppsala, Sweden in 2008. Since returning to U-C, the band has added members Daniel Colbert, Emelinda Escobar, and Rachel Wittrig on violins, Philip Bergman on cello, and Clint Dodson on Drums, and each new member has brought with them an exciting new dynamic and character to the group, resulting in a sophisticated, rhythmically propulsive, and lushly orchestrated sound, known engaging to both young and old.
