Blending rapcore’s sonorous, confrontational style with incisive conscious lyrics, the self-proclaimed “junte de panas” Yuca Brava seeks to become an outlet to the collective frustration caused by the fiscal crisis, as well as a meeting space for other puerto ricans who are angry over the country’s mismanagement that goes completely against the public’s interest. Yuca Brava is made up by Félix Castro Rodríguez (emcee and writer) and Carlos R. Anglada (musical arrangements and backing vocals), and they stress the importance of not only communicating, but also defending a message of resiliency, confrontation and resistance amid Puerto Rico’s tense social and political climate. Yuca Brava is an example of the long-standing boricua traditions of self management and collaboration. Several artists and professionals have lent their talents to aid the budding project.
