Yokel ono was an experimental punk-rock two-piece from NZ. They were like a disturbingly distracted child waiting for the tooth fairy on Haloween. Musically: Hypnotic polyrhythms juxtapose looped melodies and waves of noise reminiscent of Bailterspace and HDU, with Drums reminiscent of IDM artists squarepusher and aphex twin. They formed in year 1999 and had two releases 'Our dream home wrecked our lives" [2005] and 'So Many Enemies' [2008] They have toured NZ with Die!Die!Die! ,French Horns, and the Vacants as part of a 2005 Low Hum Tour. In 2006 they toured Australia on there own, performing alongside On/Oxx, Castings, Look Pond, Fabulous Diamonds and Alps to name a few - they also played with Big Dada-released hip hoppers 'Spank Rock'. Other artists they have performed with include: My Disco!, High Dependency Unit, The Moving Units. Related bands: Mogwai, Bailterspace, HDU, Slint, refused, Liars, Die!Die!Die!, the mint chicks, Boards of canada, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Shellac. Yokel Ono disbanded in March of 2009.
