Artist
Γιάννης Παπαϊωάννου {Yannis Papaioannou} (1913-1972) was a Greek musician and composer of rembetika. Born in Kios (now Gemlik), Turkey, on 18th January, he was most active in the 1940s, and wrote many classic rembetika songs. He was also a virtusoso bouzouki player. He died on 3rd August 1972 in a road accident, and was buried in a cemetery in Kallithea, just southwest of Athens.
