Yellow Kitchen was one of the very first pioneers of Korean Indie music explosion around Hongdae area in the late 90's. Originally formed with 4 members, who were μ΅μν, λμμ£Ό, μ¬μ΄μ§, κΉμ± , Yellow Kitchen released their first EP as one side of the monumentary compilation album in 1996 along with Crying Nut. While Crying Nut appealed with its enjoyable neo-punk sound filled with dynamic energy, Yellow Kitchen is said to represent a more aesthetic and serious aspect of the scene. Noise-shoegazer sound with visible influences from No wave like notably Sonic Youth and Pixies, marks this period of the band. After that μ¬μ΄μ§ and κΉμ± had to quit the band, μ΅μν and λμμ£Ό continued their researches in sound and turn toward a more sophisticated and electronics friendly sound, releasing another joint album with 99, in 1998. Afterwards they kept on building their walls of sound with more IDM-ambient approaches, releasing the first full-length in the same year and in 2002.
