Yass Smaali is a singer/songwriter/composer, originally from Paris but now living in Belgium. He participated in the first season of The Voice van Vlaanderen. He auditioned with 'The Lazy Song' by Bruno Mars and chose Natalia as his coach. In the battle round he beat Karim Lequenne. In the liveshows she performed 'The Most Beautiful Girl in the World' by Prince, which is featured on the official The Voice album. Other songs he performed were 'How Will I Know' by Whitney Houston, 'When I Get You Alone' by Robin Thicke and 'Pour que tu m’aimes encore' by Céline Dion. He was eliminated in the last round before the final in favor of Silke Mastbooms, who finished in 2nd place. If he had made it to the final, his single would have been 'Stolen Alibi'. In 2014, he participated in Eurosong, the national selection which selects the (Flemish) Belgian entry for the Eurovision Song Contest. He auditioned with 'L'oiseau et l'enfant' by Marie Myriam. His original song 'Need You Tonight' was written by himself and Yves Gaillard, Ashley Hicklin (also responsible for the winning song, Axel Hirsoux's 'Mother' and their 2010 entry Tom Dice's 'Me And My Guitar'.), Leon Paul Palmen, Rupert Blackman. It consists of verses in French and an English chorus. He made it to the final, where he finished in 4th place.
