Delaware native Xavier Wilson began rapping and producing in early 2020 after finding a new spark for creating music outside of hardcore punk and metal. Doing so under the name X. Kubrick, an homage to the director of the same surname, he began working on music soon after extensive practice with writing rhymes and making beats. Influences like Eminem, Big Punk, Wu Tang Clan, DMX, Mobb Deep, and The Notorious B.I.G. lead to a style heavily inspired by the darker and more evocative elements of hardcore hip-hop from the 90's to 2000's. These aspects include technical rapping, emphasizing multisyllabic and internal rhyming paired with transgressive, somewhat nihilistic, and concise lyricism. Songs are backed with a production style that's traditionalist East Coast, but enhanced by somber melodies in a style reminiscent of West Coast G-funk. These parts create the dismal and rugged atmosphere showcased heavily through his music, using this as a way to recontextualize his counterculture attitude into the world of hip-hop.
