Wynder K Frog

Mick Weaver, also known during the 1960s as Wynder K Frog, has appeared as a studio musician playing the Hammond organ and keyboards on several albums over a period of four decades, as well as releasing solo albums. His Wynder K Frog band was extremely popular on the student union and club circuit of the mid-sixties and a brief merging of this band with Herbie Goins and the Nighttimers met even more acclaim. Mick was not comfortable in the role of band leader and he seemed happier when the spotlight was on other musicians whilst he delivered keyboard support. Weaver's work includes appearances on albums for Herbie Goins, Joe Cocker, Eric Burdon, Frankie Miller, Keef Hartley, Roger Chapman, Otis Grand, Taj Mahal, and others. Weaver replaced Steve Winwood for a short while in Traffic when the latter left the band to join Eric Clapton and form the supergroup Blind Faith; however, he did not record with that band. One of British rock's relatively-unsung heroes of the Hammond B3 organ, he is a supreme master of the instrument, particularly in blues/funk modes. Though much of his work has been relatively low profile as a session musician, or onstage on keyboards behind better known musicians, he released three albums under his stage name, as well as a number of singles. The "Sunshine Superfrog" album, originally released as a small run in 1967, has never been re-released and is now a rare collector's item.
