Wir sind Helden (German pronunciation: [viːɐ̯ zɪnt ˈhɛldn̩], meaning "We are heroes") was a German pop rock band established in 2000 in Hamburg and later based in Berlin. The band consisted of Judith Holofernes (lead vocals, guitar), Pola Roy (drums), Mark Tavassol (bass), and Jean-Michel Tourette (keyboard, guitar). The band gained wider attention in 2002 with the song "Guten Tag", which received radio airplay and television exposure despite the absence of a recording contract. Their debut album "Die Reklamation", released in 2003, reached number 2 on the German albums chart and sold over 500,000 copies. Subsequent albums, "Von hier an blind", "Soundso", and "Bring mich nach Hause", all reached top positions in the German and Austrian charts. The band’s music has been associated with influences from Neue Deutsche Welle, particularly on "Die Reklamation", and is noted for lyrical themes addressing social and personal topics, as heard in songs such as "Guten Tag" and "Müssen nur wollen". In April 2012, the band announced an indefinite hiatus. Before the formation of the band, Judith Holofernes performed as a solo artist in Berlin and independently released the EP "Kamikazefliege" in 1999. Wir sind Helden was formed in 2000 after Holofernes met Pola Roy and Jean-Michel Tourette at a music workshop in Hamburg; Mark Tavassol joined shortly thereafter. The band name reflects an intention to reinterpret the concept of “heroes” in a more everyday or anti-heroic sense and was also
