The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra is a 67-member orchestra based in the Centennial Concert Hall in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and performs throughout the province of Manitoba. Established in 1947, the WSO played its first concert on December 16, 1948 in the Civic Auditorium to an audience of 3,000. The WSO moved to its present home in the 2,300-seat Centennial Concert Hall in April, 1968. In 1992, then Maestro Bramwell Tovey, and Composer-in-Residence Glenn Buhr, along with others, created the New Music Festival, a popular and internationally recognized celebration of new classical music.
