Will Dixon was born in Suffolk on 4th July 1991. He was first presented with a guitar at the age of 11, and practiced with the main goal of attracting girls at high school. While this plot failed, he learned to play the guitar, and began to sing. His first solo performance was at a Debenham High School summer concert on his 15th birthday, playing a bluegrass instrumental for his GCSE music performance, and a cover of Friend of a Friend by Foo Fighters. It was earlier that year that Will had met Rory Cargill in Germany, and together they attempted to form a rock band, the ill-fated Media Jam. On the side, Will and Rory collaborated as an acoustic duo named Lotus Kids, playing several small gigs including a music night at Hartismere High School, where they played their own song 'A Song About You'. It was in the two years as Lotus Kids that Will wrote his first songs, writing both an album's worth of prog-rock material for Media Jam, and half an album's worth for Lotus Kids (Rory wrote the other half). Only a small collection of these songs continued to be played after Lotus Kids ended, to appear on Will's first, unnamed solo demo. June To July and Weakened State are two of these. Knowing that there were more 'sub-average' songs to get through before the 'real ones' started coming, Will persisted, and by the beginning of sixth form at Thomas Mills High School, he had his second demo 'First Will and Testament' recorded using his Boss 4-track.
