The Wild Giraffes (Chris King, Alan McGinty, Chris Burgess, Jeff Iannini, the late Edgar Reynolds and later addition Dave Ivan) were a local band out of Mentor (Cleveland-area), Ohio who were active between 1975 and 1974. They released 3 7" singles and 1 LP (Right Now) on Neck Records. It was a great time for 'alternative' music on the Cleveland scene, where you could go see The Giraffes, The Raven Slaughter Band, Insanity and the Killers (who later changed their name to The Killers*), Easter Monkeys, Baloney Heads, Lucky Pierre, The Adults and The Monitors almost any night of the week at any one of a number of clubs who catered to alternative (Non-Top 40, non-cover) music. It was a tough time, however, for bands to find clubs in the beginning who would take the chance on local bands who played their own music. The Giraffes were one of the bands who broke this trend, as they were popular, not only live, but on WMMS radio as well - they had a track on the rare WMMS-produced album Pride of Cleveland, with the song Burning Love. *Not the current band of the same name out of Las Vegas, although they did have a similar sound.
