about

In various rooms, in various places, in various countries, Adam Sturgeon and Kirsten Palm hibernated. Unaware of each other’s existence, they kept themselves warm and nourished by writing music, either by themselves (Water St. Projects) or with others (Innes Wilson and his Opposition, Elbow Beach Surf Club). One day, in the city of Guelph, Ontario, Adam and Kirsten found themselves in the same room laughing at each other like idiots. From there they quickly became entangled in each other’s music and other hibernation secrets. The pair wrote songs together for two seasons before Nathan Campagnaro (Bleet), who was hibernating in the nearby woods of puslinch, started to make the trek into Guelph to keep them company and keep them in time. Armed with percussion, still not sure if they were a band or a recording project, they gave themselves the name WHOOP-Szo, the noisy mountain. The sounds they produce are largely experimental, often taking noise and turning it into music, or taking music and turning it into noise. They like dichotomy and it shows. Think, semi-instrumental, mathy, electro-classical-grunge-folk. Think moods. Think vibes. The band itself thinks a lot of nature, of spirits, of people, and of powers. They like the way things fit together in the end. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
