Who’s Gerald was the first band of David McCormack, who is better known as the lead singer of Custard. The band also featured Paul Medew and Glen Donald who met at school in Ipswitch. Cathy Atthow was recruited as drummer, pleasing McCormack due to the similarity it created with The Go-Betweens who also had a female band member on this instrument. Bass player Christian Dahl was found in through university advertisement. He was the only respondent. The band was named after Gerald V. Casale from Devo, and existed from 1986 to 1989. Who’s Gerald released a 7” single titled ‘Wrestle Wrestle/Gerald Is Stumbling Away Along The Highway Of Life’ and supported Sonic Youth and INXS. Despite this, they never toured outside the state of Queensland. McCormack appears derisive towards his debut band, stating: Who's Gerald? was a bad band in a time of very bad music. The people in the band, although fine people now, were all idiots at the time. I was the biggest idiot of them all. All the songs, without exception, were atrocious. There are no good memories of that time. Except when we broke up. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
