Wes Carr from Bondi, New South Wales was the winner of Australian Idol (season 6). Born in Adelaide, South Australia, Carr moved to Sydney as a 15-year-old. Before he auditioned for Australian Idol, Carr performed and had regular resident gigs around Sydney. During 2004 Carr fronted the band Tambalane - a side project of Silverchair drummer Ben Gillies - and co-wrote their debut self-titled album. Tambalane parted ways at the end of 2005. He had released an EP (Rhythm to Fly, 2006) and an album (Simple Sum, 2008) independently before succeeding Natalie Gauci as the latest winner of Australian Idol on November 23, 2008. Wes Carr continues his career by returning to his roots as a singer-songwriter.
