With her mother a painter and her father a music-loving teacher, Brooklyn-raised Wendy Marcini spent her youth in a world heavily guided by colour and tonality. Growing up in a household flooded with vinyl records by Ella Fitzgerald, Eric Dolphie, Billie Holiday, Dizzie Gilespie, and Miles Davis - to name only a few - most certainly left a mark on her. Being captivated by the playfulness and possibilities of jazz music from an early age, Wendy developed her own personal methods of voicing, with blues and pop being the cornerstone ingredients of her craft. Yet, she sprinkles of more traditional expression in her style, stemming from artists such as Oscar Pettersson and Bill Evans.
