Artist
It's hard to believe that Wendo Kolosoy had his first hit in 1948, the evergreen "Marie Louise". Similar to what Rufus Thomas did for soul in the US, Kolosoy laid the foundations for what became the Congolese rumba. Over the years, he has always been recognised as the father of modern African music. He gave his last concert in 2004 - surely making him one of the longest-playing performers in the world.
