Los Angeles based Warbride, began in the mid 1980's, by founding members Lori Von Linstruth and Velia Garay, playing shows in the L.A area they quickly gained notice for their musicianship largely due to guitarist Lori who has been called one of the best female guitar players in the hard rock, heavy metal scene, the original lineup made several demos, however the band solidified their sound with the addition of seasoned drummer Michelle Gignac (Lee) who replaced Sandy Sledge. Warbride released several more demos and even opened for bands like Manowar, Phantom Blue, and Hardly Dangerous, being one of the first all female bands to play what is now called "progressive" metal, Warbride was destined to do great things, however management issues and line up changes plaque the band that eventually saw founding member Lori VonLinstruth leaving and joining the all female Sweden based metal band Ice Age, Keyboardist Velia Garay would continue with Warbride with new members, despite lasting over a decade the constant changes were the band's only downfall, but the contribution they added for women in heavy metal is undeniable. As heavy metal came of age in the 70's, its character deepened. Beyond the brash "party music" facade that the general public saw, there moved entities of melodic depth and consummate musicianship.
