Artist
Walter Kaufmann (1 April 1907 – 9 September 1984) was born in Karlsbad (Karlovy Vary), then part of Austria-Hungary. He studied composition and musicology in Berlin and Prague, working under figures such as Franz Schreker. He is best known for his prolific creative work in India, his extensive radio music for All India Radio, and later his academic career in Canada. His output ranges from orchestral and chamber music to film scores and pioneering studies of non-Western musical traditions.
