VoPo's (VoPo is short for Volkspolizei, the notorious police force of former communist East Germany) were founded in Zwolle, The Netherlands in 1978 by brothers Frans and Theo de Grebber. They started out as a pure punk band in 1978, but became an early thrash metal formation after the turn of the decade, notably on their 1983 LP Conquer. For a number of years in early 1980s the Vopo's inhabited this rather strange no man's land between punk and early 1980s metal. After years of inactivity, 2005 surprisingly saw the release of a new album, The Price of Being Young, which featured new material but also some older recordings from the Vopo vaults.
