Von Strantz is the solo project of singer-songwriter Jess Von Strantz, based out of Atlanta, Georgia. Originally formed as a duo in Denver, Colorado, United States in 2012 by biological sisters Jess Von Strantz and Kelsey Horton, the project began when the pair reconnected in adulthood and began making music together. Jess and Kelsey were raised in separate families on opposite sides of the United States, choosing to take their shared family name for the project. Releasing numerous studio LPs and EPs and a single together between 2015 and 2019, Von Strantz is charecterised by a difficult-to-classify blend of folk, synthpop, and soul. Von Strantz became a solo project in 2021. Jess performed in the folk duo Native Land with her husband Matthew Hobler (Mayhew the Traitor), until his death in 2018.
