The bass clarinetist studied from 1985 to 1990 at the College of Music in Hamburg with Dietrich Hahn. At the same time, he studied bass clarinet with Harry Sparnaay at the Sweenlinck Conservatory in Amsterdam from 1989 to 1990, and from 1990 to 1991 he completed a postgraduate studies with Hans Rudolf Stalder at the Basel Music Academy.
